Problems we fix

Common Samsung Washing Machine Problems We Fix

Samsung uses a long list of codes, and some change meaning from one model to the next. The faults below are the ones that come up most often on Samsung machines, with what usually sits behind each one. For other brands, see our main washing machine repairs Sydney page.

Samsung 5C or 5E: Not Draining

Water is left in the drum at the end of the cycle. Samsung front loaders have a debris filter behind a small panel at the bottom front, with an emergency drain tube next to it. Empty the water into a tray, then unscrew the filter and clear it out. Samsung also says to check the drain hose isn’t kinked and isn’t sitting lower than the base of the machine. If the filter and hose are both clear, the drain pump is next on the list.

Samsung 4C or 4E: Won’t Fill

A 4C usually turns out to be one of three things: a tap that’s been knocked half-closed, a blocked mesh screen where the hose screws onto the machine, or an inlet valve that has stopped opening. We check them in that order, because the first two cost you nothing to fix.

Samsung UE or Ub: Won’t Spin

Samsung shows UE or Ub when the load is unbalanced. One heavy item, like a doona or a bath mat, is the classic trigger. When it keeps happening with normal loads, look at the hardware: on top loaders, worn suspension rods are the usual cause, and on front loaders, tired shock absorbers. A top loader whose tub knocks against the cabinet on spin is a strong sign the rods have had it.

Samsung dC: Door or Lid Won’t Lock

dC (also shown as DC, DC1 or dE on some models) is a door or lid problem. On a front loader, make sure nothing is caught in the door seal and the door clicks shut. On a top loader, close the lid fully and check nothing is blocking the lock. If the code stays, the door or lid lock, or its wiring, is the usual cause. On AddWash machines, ddC or dC3 points to the small Add Door instead.

Samsung LC or LE: Leak Detected

LC or LE means the machine has picked up a water level or leak problem. Switch it off, turn off the taps and look underneath. Too much detergent can cause it, because the suds push water where it shouldn’t go. If there’s a puddle, the door seal, the pump or an internal hose is the likely source, and we’ll find which one before replacing anything.

Sud on the Samsung Display

Sud isn’t a fault. The machine has detected too many suds and paused to clear them. Use less detergent next time, and make sure it’s made for front loaders or HE machines. Sydney’s tap water is soft, so detergent lathers easily and you need less than the pack suggests.

Samsung Rumbling or Grinding on Spin

A rumble that rises with spin speed usually means the drum bearings are wearing. On a front loader that’s a major repair, and on an older Samsung it can cost close to a new machine. We’ll give you the numbers before you decide.

Error codes

Samsung Washing Machine Error Codes and What to Do

Samsung codes often come in pairs, such as 4C and 4E, depending on the model. Watch the difference between letters and numbers too: on some displays 5C looks a lot like SC, and both mean the machine can’t drain.

CodeWhat it meansTry this first
4C, 4EWater supply problemCheck both taps, the hoses and the hose screens
5C, 5E (SC, SE)Drain problemCheck the drain hose height and clean the debris filter
UE, UbUnbalanced loadSpread the load evenly and check the machine is level
dC, DC1, dEDoor or lid not lockingClear the seal, close it firmly and restart
ddC, dC3AddWash door problemClose the small Add Door firmly
LC, LEWater level or leak detectedSwitch off, turn off the taps and look underneath
HC, HEHeating problemBook a repair; it’s usually the heater or temperature sensor
3C, 3EMotor problem (a power supply problem on some models)Lighten the load and restart; if it returns, book a repair
SudToo many suds (not a fault)Let it clear, then use less detergent
Code meanings checked against Samsung support pages in October 2026. Samsung notes that codes vary by model and region.

If a code keeps coming back after a restart, stop there. Note it down, take a photo and call us on 0452 687 383.

Machines we repair

Samsung Front Loaders, Top Loaders and AddWash Models We Repair

Front loaders

Most newer Samsung front loaders use a brushless Digital Inverter motor, which doesn’t wear the way older motors did. Faults tend to sit around it instead: door locks, debris filters, drain pumps, bearings and control boards.

Top loaders

Repeated UE faults on Samsung top loaders often trace back to worn suspension rods. Some models also have a lint filter inside the drum, which Samsung calls the Magic Filter, and it needs emptying regularly.

AddWash

The small Add Door lets you throw in a forgotten sock mid-cycle. It has its own latch and sensor, so it can raise its own errors (ddC or dC3).

Washer-dryers

We test the washing and drying sides separately before we quote.

Before you call

Quick Checks for Samsung Owners

Woman checking the drain hose behind a front-loader washing machine

Safety first: switch the machine off and unplug it before you touch the filter or hoses.

1

Look at the drain hose height

Samsung’s own advice is that the drain hose shouldn’t sit lower than the base of the machine. Make sure it rises up the wall behind the washer before it drops into the standpipe or tub.

2

Clear the debris filter (front loaders)

Use the emergency drain tube first, with a tray and towels ready, then unscrew the filter slowly.

3

Check for the child lock icon

With child lock on, every button except power and the dial is disabled, which can look like a dead control panel.

4

Run Self Clean if the drum icon shows

After a set number of washes, a drum icon appears as a reminder to clean the drum. It isn’t a fault.

Still stuck? Don’t keep restarting it with water in the drum. Leave the code on the display and call us.

How it works

How a Samsung Repair Visit Works

1

Send us the model number and the code

On front loaders the label is usually inside the door rim; on top loaders, check the back panel. Call 0452 687 383 or book online.

2

We bring the likely parts

Drain pumps, door locks, inlet valves and suspension rods for common Samsung models travel with us.

3

Test, then quote

We confirm the fault before replacing anything, so a 5C doesn’t automatically mean a new pump. You get the price and decide.

4

Repair and full test

We fit the part and run a full cycle before we leave.

Repair or replace

Is Your Samsung Washer Worth Repairing?

If it’s under seven or so years old and the fault is a pump, lock, valve or suspension part, almost always. Bearings or a control board on an older machine are a closer call, and we’ll lay out the numbers so you can decide.

Two Samsung Checks Before You Pay

First, the motor. Samsung backs its Digital Inverter motors with a parts-only warranty that runs 10 years on many models and longer on some newer ones. Check your warranty card or Samsung’s website before paying for a motor.

Second, recalls. Some Samsung top loaders sold in Australia have been recalled. Look up your model number on the ACCC’s Product Safety Australia recalls site (productsafety.gov.au) before you pay for a repair. If neither applies, we’re happy to quote.

FAQ

Samsung Washing Machine Repair FAQs

Can’t find what you’re looking for? Give us a call and we’ll help you work out what’s wrong.

What does 5C mean on a Samsung washing machine?

5C (or 5E) means the machine can’t drain. Check the drain hose isn’t kinked or sitting lower than the base of the washer, then clean the debris filter on a front loader. If it still won’t drain, the drain pump probably needs replacing.

What does 4C mean on a Samsung washing machine?

4C (or 4E) is a water supply error. Make sure both taps are fully open, the hoses aren’t kinked and the mesh screens at the hose connections are clean. If water is getting to the machine and it still won’t fill, the inlet valve has likely failed.

How do I fix UE on a Samsung washer?

Stop the cycle, spread the load evenly and check the machine is level and doesn’t rock. Avoid washing one heavy item on its own. If UE or Ub keeps coming back with normal loads, the suspension rods or shock absorbers are probably worn.

What does dC mean on my Samsung washer?

dC means the door or lid isn’t locking. Check nothing is caught in the seal or blocking the lid, then close it firmly and restart. If dC stays, the lock or its wiring needs testing. On AddWash models, ddC refers to the small Add Door.

Why is my Samsung washing machine leaking from the bottom?

The usual causes are a worn door seal, a leaking pump or drain hose, a loose debris filter cap, or too many suds from excess detergent. Many Samsung models show LC or LE when they detect a leak. Turn off the taps and unplug the machine until it’s checked.
