Problems we fix
Common Bosch Washing Machine Problems We Fix
Most Bosch washers in Sydney homes are front loaders, and the same handful of faults turn up across the range. Here’s what each one usually means and what we do about it. If you have another brand, our main washing machine repairs Sydney page covers it.

Bosch E18: Not Draining
E18 (F18 on older models) means the water didn’t drain in time. Behind the service flap at the bottom of the machine, most Bosch washers have a small emergency drain hose beside the pump filter. Let the water out into a shallow tray first, then unscrew the filter slowly. Socks, coins and hair clips are common finds. If the filter is clear and the pump doesn’t run, the pump or its wiring is the next suspect.
Bosch E17: Water Supply Time Exceeded
E17 means the machine couldn’t fill within its time limit. Open the tap fully first. If that doesn’t clear it, the small filter where the inlet hose connects is often blocked. One Bosch-specific warning: if your hose has an AquaStop box at the tap end, never dunk it in water, because it contains an electric valve.
Bosch E23: AquaStop Activated
E23 (or F23) means water has reached the base of the machine and the AquaStop system has shut off the supply to stop a flood. Bosch’s advice is clear: turn off the tap and don’t use the machine until it’s fixed. The water usually comes from a leaking pump, a split internal hose, a worn door seal, or suds overflowing from too much detergent. We find the leak, fix it, and dry out the base so the system can reset.
Bosch Door Won’t Open
A Bosch keeps its door locked while there’s water inside or the drum is still moving. Drain the water first through the emergency hose. On many Bosch models there’s also an emergency release behind the service flap that unlocks the door once the drum is empty and still; your manual shows where. If the door still won’t release, the lock has likely failed.
Bosch Not Spinning or Clothes Left Wet
A Bosch would rather finish with wet clothes than spin a badly unbalanced load at full speed, so a single heavy item can leave the washing soaked. If it happens with normal mixed loads, we check the drain first, then the motor and its control. Older Bosch motors also have carbon brushes that wear down over time.
Bosch Roaring on Spin
A deep roar that grows with spin speed usually points to worn drum bearings. On a newer Bosch it’s often worth fixing; on an older one we’ll compare the cost with a replacement before you spend anything.
Bosch Tripping the Power
If your Bosch trips the safety switch, often just as it starts heating the water, stop using it. A failed heating element is a common cause, but water reaching the wiring can do the same. This one needs a technician, not another reset.
Error codes
Bosch Washing Machine Error Codes and What to Do
Newer Bosch washers show codes starting with E, such as E18, while older ones used F, such as F18. The number means the same thing either way.
| Code | What Bosch says it means | Try this first |
|---|---|---|
| E17, F17 | Water supply time exceeded | Open the tap fully and clean the inlet hose filter; keep any AquaStop box dry |
| E18, F18 | Water not draining | Drain through the emergency hose, then clean the pump filter |
| E23, F23 | AquaStop activated: water in the base | Turn off the tap, unplug the machine and book a repair |
| Key or lock symbol | Child lock is on (not a fault) | Your manual shows which button to hold to switch it off |
Bosch has other codes too, covering things like heating and sensors, and the meaning can vary by model. Send us the exact code and the E-Nr from the rating plate, and we’ll tell you what it means for your machine.

Machines we repair
Bosch Series 4, 6 and 8, i-DOS and Washer-Dryer Repairs
Series 4, 6 and 8 front loaders
We repair current models and older Serie-branded machines. Most of the work is drain pumps, door locks, inlet valves, door seals, heating elements and bearings.
EcoSilence Drive
Bosch’s brushless motor has no carbon brushes to wear out, and Bosch backs it with a 10-year motor warranty on eligible models.
i-DOS auto-dosing
These machines measure out detergent automatically from a built-in tank. We service the dosing side as well as the wash side.
AquaStop hoses
Many Bosch washers have an AquaStop hose with a safety valve at the tap end. When it triggers, the leak behind it needs finding, not just a reset.
Washer-dryers
We test the washing and drying sides separately before quoting.
Before you call
Checks for Bosch Owners Before You Book

Safety first: unplug the machine before you open the service flap or touch the hoses.
1
Find the E-Nr and the code
The E-Nr (model number) and FD number are on the rating plate, usually around the door opening. Note them along with the exact code on the display.
2
Drain through the emergency hose
Open the service flap, pull out the small drain hose, unplug its end over a tray and let it empty before touching the pump filter. It can take a few trays.
3
For E17, check the tap and inlet filter
Open the tap fully. If you remove the hose to check its filter, keep any AquaStop box dry.
4
For E23, stop there
Turn off the tap and unplug the machine. AquaStop has done its job; the leak behind it still needs finding.

3

4
Repair and full test
We fit the part and run a full wash, drain and spin, then check the base is dry.
Repair or replace
Is a Bosch Washer Worth Repairing?
In most cases, yes. A pump, door lock or seal on a five- or eight-year-old Bosch is well worth fixing, given what the machine cost new. Worn bearings on an older machine are a closer call, and we’ll give you the real numbers either way.

Check Your Bosch Warranty First
New Bosch washers come with a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty, and models fitted with the EcoSilence Drive motor carry a 10-year warranty on the motor. If your machine is inside either period and the fault is covered, contact Bosch before booking a paid repair. The Australian Consumer Law may also give you rights beyond the written warranty, so keep your receipt.

FAQ
Bosch Washing Machine Repair FAQs
Can’t find what you’re looking for? Give us a call and we’ll help you work out what’s wrong.
What does E18 mean on a Bosch washing machine?
E18 means the water isn’t draining. Drain it through the small emergency hose behind the service flap, then clean the pump filter. If the filter is clear and the code returns, the drain pump or its wiring needs testing.
What does E23 mean on a Bosch washer?
E23 means the AquaStop system has detected water in the base of the machine, which usually means a leak. Turn off the tap, unplug the machine and don’t use it until the leak has been found and fixed.
What does E17 mean on a Bosch washing machine?
E17 means the machine couldn’t fill in time. Make sure the tap is fully open, then check the filter where the inlet hose connects. Keep any AquaStop box dry. If the water supply is fine, the inlet valve may have failed.
How do I open a Bosch washing machine door that’s stuck?
Drain any water first through the emergency hose behind the service flap. Many Bosch models have an emergency door release in the same area, which works once the drum is empty and still. If the door stays locked, the door lock has likely failed.
Where do I find the E-Nr on my Bosch washer?
It’s on the rating plate, usually around the door opening, along with the FD number. Send us a photo of the plate when you book and we’ll know exactly which model you have.
Does Bosch’s 10-year motor warranty cover my repair?
Only if your washer has the EcoSilence Drive motor and the fault is the motor itself. Pumps, door locks, seals and bearings aren’t the motor. We’ll tell you which part has failed so you know whether to contact Bosch.
