Problems we fix
Common LG Washing Machine Problems We Fix
LG washers use a Direct Drive motor that turns the drum directly, with no belt or pulley in between. That changes how some faults show up, so everything below is written for LG machines. Got a different brand? Our main washing machine repairs Sydney page covers the rest.

LG OE Error: Water Won’t Drain
OE means the water didn’t pump out in time. On LG front loaders, the pump filter sits behind a small cover at the bottom front, with a thin drain tube beside it so you can empty the water into a tray first. Lint, coins and hair ties are the usual culprits. If the filter is clean and the pump hums without moving any water, the impeller is jammed or the pump has failed. Drain pumps for common LG models travel on our van, so this is normally a one-visit job.
LG UE Error: Won’t Spin or Thumps on Spin
UE is LG’s way of saying the load is lopsided, so the machine refuses to spin rather than shake itself apart. A single doona, a bath mat or a few heavy towels on their own will set it off. If UE keeps coming back with normal, mixed loads, the drum is moving more than it should. On front loaders that usually means worn shock absorbers; on top loaders, worn suspension rods. Both can be replaced.
LG LE Error: Drum Won’t Turn
LE (or LE1) means the motor tried to turn the drum and couldn’t. Take out about half the load and restart, because an overloaded drum is a common trigger. If LE returns with a light load, the likely causes are the small rotor position (Hall) sensor on the motor, the motor wiring or the motor itself. The sensor is an inexpensive part, and it’s worth testing before anyone mentions a new motor.
LG dE Error: Door Won’t Lock
dE means the door didn’t lock, so the cycle can’t start. Check that nothing is caught in the rubber seal, then shut the door firmly until it clicks. If dE stays on the display, the door lock (interlock) or the catch on the door is normally to blame. Some LG models show dE1 or dE2 instead, which point to the same area.
LG IE Error: Not Filling
IE means not enough water came in during the fill. Make sure both taps are fully open and the hoses aren’t kinked behind the machine. Each inlet hose has a small mesh screen where it screws onto the washer, and grit after water main work can block it. If the supply is fine, the inlet valve has most likely failed.
Mouldy Smell or Black Spots on the LG Door Seal
Front loaders hold a little water in the folds of the door seal, and that’s where mould grows. If your LG shows tCL, it isn’t a fault, just a reminder to run the Tub Clean cycle. A seal that’s torn, cracked or stained deep into the rubber can be replaced, and we’ll check the drain at the same time, because a slow drain makes smells worse.
LG Roaring or Grinding on Spin
A roar that gets louder as the spin speeds up usually points to worn drum bearings. It tends to start quietly and build over a few weeks. Bearing work is a big job on any front loader, so we quote it separately and tell you straight if the machine’s age makes a new washer the better buy.
Error codes
LG Washing Machine Error Codes and What to Do
LG codes are two or three characters, and a few vary slightly between top loaders and front loaders. These are the common ones, with LG’s own meaning and a safe first step.
| Code | What LG says it means | Try this first |
|---|---|---|
| OE | Water isn’t draining | Check the drain hose for kinks, then clean the pump filter |
| IE | Not enough water coming in | Turn both taps fully on and check the hose screens |
| UE | Unbalanced load | Spread the load out or add a couple of towels |
| dE, dE1, dE2 | Door can’t lock | Clear the seal and close the door firmly |
| LE, LE1 | Motor locked, often from an obstruction or overload | Remove some of the load and restart |
| FE | Overfilling | Turn off the taps and call us; the inlet valve or water level sensor is the usual cause |
| PE | Water level sensor fault | Restart once; if it returns, it needs a technician |
| tE | Heating or temperature sensor fault | Close the taps, unplug the machine and book a repair |
| CL | Child lock is on (not a fault) | Your manual shows which button to hold to switch it off |
| tCL | Time to run Tub Clean (not a fault) | Run the Tub Clean cycle with the drum empty |
If a code clears and comes straight back, don’t keep resetting it. Write it down, take a photo and give us a call on 0452 687 383.

Machines we repair
LG Front Loaders, Top Loaders and Washer-Dryers We Repair
Inverter Direct Drive front loaders
Most LG front loaders use an inverter-controlled Direct Drive motor, with AI DD and 6 Motion on newer models. With no belt to wear out, drive faults usually come down to the Hall sensor, wiring, the motor control board or the motor itself.
LG top loaders
These use Direct Drive too. Typical jobs are UE balance faults from worn suspension rods, lid lock faults, drain pumps and inlet valves.
LG washer-dryer combos
We test the washing and drying sides before quoting, because a combo can wash perfectly and still fail to heat on the dry cycle.
Smart Diagnosis and ThinQ models
Many LG washers can report fault data through Smart Diagnosis or the LG ThinQ app. If you’ve already run it, tell us what it said. It saves time on the day.
Before you call
Four Checks for LG Owners Before You Book
These only take a few minutes.

Safety first: unplug the machine first whenever you’re touching the filter or hoses.
1
Read the code exactly
Write down everything the display shows, including any number after the letters, because LE1 and LE aren’t always the same fault. A photo is even better.
2
Drain, then clean the pump filter
Open the small cover at the bottom front, pull out the thin drain tube and let the water run into a tray before you unscrew the filter. An LG front loader can hold more water than you’d expect, so have towels ready.
3
Lighten the load
For UE or LE, take out about half the washing, spread the rest around the drum and run a spin-only cycle.
4
Rule out CL and tCL
Neither is a fault. CL means the child lock is on, and tCL means the drum is due for a Tub Clean.
Same code still showing? Leave it there and call us. Repeated restarts with water in the drum can damage the pump or keep the door locked.

How it works
How an LG Repair Visit Works
1
Send us the details
Call 0452 687 383 or book online with your LG model number, the error code and what the machine is doing. On most LG front loaders the model label is around the door opening; on top loaders, check under the lid or on the back panel.
2
We arrive with the likely parts
From the code and model, we load the parts LG washers most often need, such as drain pumps, door locks, inlet valves and Hall sensors.
3
Test, then quote
The technician tests the machine, explains what has failed and gives you the price. You decide whether to go ahead.
4
Repair and full test
We fit the part and run a full wash, drain and spin before we leave.
Repair or replace
Is Your LG Washer Worth Repairing?
Usually, if it’s under about seven or eight years old. LG’s Direct Drive design has fewer moving parts than a belt-driven machine, and the most common LG faults involve pumps, door locks, sensors and suspension, which are affordable fixes. It’s harder to justify on an older machine with worn bearings or a failed control board, and we’ll tell you when that’s the case.

Check Your LG Motor Warranty First
Many LG washers come with 2 years of parts and labour from LG, plus an extra 8 years of parts-only cover on the Inverter Direct Drive motor, which makes 10 years on the motor in total. You’ll need your proof of purchase, and labour isn’t covered after the first 2 years. If your machine is still inside those first 2 years, contact LG before you book anyone. The Australian Consumer Law may also give you rights beyond the written warranty.

FAQ
LG Washing Machine Repair FAQs
Can’t find what you’re looking for? Give us a call and we’ll help you work out what’s wrong.
What does OE mean on an LG washing machine?
OE means the water isn’t draining. Check the drain hose for kinks first, then empty and clean the pump filter at the bottom front. If both are clear and the code returns, the drain pump has probably failed, and we can usually replace it in one visit.
How do I fix a UE error on my LG washer?
Stop the machine, spread the washing evenly around the drum, and add a couple of towels if you’re washing one heavy item. Then run a spin-only cycle. If UE keeps appearing with normal loads, the shock absorbers or suspension rods are likely worn and need replacing.
What does LE mean on an LG washing machine?
LE means the motor is locked or can’t turn the drum. Overloading is a common cause, so remove some washing and restart. If it comes back with a light load, the Hall sensor, motor wiring or motor needs testing. Check your LG motor warranty before paying for a motor.
Why won’t my LG front loader door open?
LG front loaders keep the door locked while there’s water inside. If the cycle stopped with water in the drum, drain it through the small tube beside the pump filter first. If the drum is empty and the door still won’t release after a few minutes off at the wall, the door lock has likely failed.
Is my LG washing machine motor still under warranty?
Possibly. Many LG washers carry 2 years of parts and labour plus 8 more years of parts-only cover on the Direct Drive motor, so up to 10 years on the motor. Labour isn’t included after year two, and you’ll need your receipt. We’ll tell you if your fault is the motor.
